How to Clean Your Closet to Have a Better Personal Style and More Outfits

I respect Marie Kondo’s organizing style, but as a professional stylist I have curated hundreds of closets and I wouldn’t recommend the KonMari Method for editing your clothing. If you want to improve your appearance, standard closet organizing isn’t about building personal style and dressing well, it’s about clearing clutter quickly.

Of course, loving what you own is a part of it, but curating great personal style takes more than simply knowing what sparks joy.

For instance…

  • What do you do if the item sparks joy yet you still can’t figure out what to match with it?

  • What if a blouse sparks joy but you haven’t found the right bra to wear under it?

  • What if a pair of pants sparks joy but you have never worn them and frankly…never will?

The Let’s Get You (LGY) edit method builds personal style and clothing wardrobes that are confidence-boosting and fool-proof, no matter where you go, your body, or budget.

Using this method, once you’ll edit down your clothing, be clearer about what is missing, understand how your personal style has evolved, plateaued (or is just beginning), and be significantly more satisfied with what you have (even if it is less).
