Capsule Wardrobes: Building A Wardrobe That Stays Stylish
I see you over there.
Wanting to get dressed without sighing.
Wishing mornings in your closet would be quick.
Wanting to look pulled together every day.
Just let getting dressed be easy-breezy!
And a capsule wardrobe will solve it because everything will go together and match effortlessly.
You’ll look stylish, and you’ll stop having to shop all the time.
If you follow generic outlines for capsule wardrobes you’ll likely end up with a copy-paste look that doesn’t reflect your personal style, lifestyle, or tastes.
The items may not fit your body well, fit your climate, or fit your dream style.
A capsule wardrobe will not solve the problem and isn’t a long-term solution to your style that it’s sold. As a stylist who has curated hundreds of wardrobes for the past 15 years, l am an expert on this so...

The purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to create multiple outfits out of a collection of items.
This means any wardrobe is (or can be) a capsule wardrobe regardless of the items within that wardrobe.
Get this: odds are you already have one in your closet.
At the very least you may have the beginnings of one.
If you think shopping for and curating a capsule wardrobe will solve your style problems, you may feel satisfied quickly but desire another “capsule” quickly.
Capsule wardrobes will never feel “complete” if you don’t think of your entire closet as your capsule wardrobe.
Before embarking on shopping for a capsule wardrobe, these are essential first steps:
Have a vision for your style and capsule
Wear all of your items to edit down your current capsule
Create new combinations with items you wear less often
Edit out what doesn’t support your vision
Once you’ve done the above you’ll have a foundational wardrobe (aka a personalized capsule wardrobe) of curated items that mix and reflect your lifestyle and tastes.
Only then is filling gaps with shopping a good idea.
Taking the time to go through your current closet with a clear vision of your style will guarantee you a long-lasting wardrobe that mixes and matches.
By stepping back and looking at what is in your current wardrobe first, then building a wardrobe around your vision and goals will you be able to have a true capsule wardrobe.
